Qualified hypnotherapists like Sue must follow a strict code of ethics. Put simply, she will ascertain a person’s goals and then in a trance situation, suggest how these can be achieved safely.  Children love it.  Youngsters think of it as magic with Sue as the magician as she takes them through a trip of ‘guided visualisation’, to a fantasy destination where they feel safe and relaxed.

Many children’s problems are often triggered by anxiety – being bullied at school, feeling misunderstood, teachers failing to see any potential - or from the parents themselves, anxious that their youngsters fulfil their own expectations.   Sue comments:  “Kids are under a lot of pressure these days.   They are expected to do well at school and then after school too, with the round of extra curricular activities.  They worry about under-achieving and never seem to be allowed to relax and just be themselves.”

To that end, when seeing children, Sue talks to parents too, both with and without the child, to get a handle on the family lifestyle.

She says:   “Often a parent’s neuroses will rub off on the children.  If you have an anxious parent, chances are you have an anxious child.

“Through hypnosis, a child can actually flourish.  They can find themselves a safe place.  It gives them a sense of security, self-confidence and self-esteem and, importantly, a belief in themselves.  So, when they feel their qualities are being undermined at school or they can’t stand up to anybody, it makes them believe they can.”
